About the Book Donations Program

The Book Donations program reflects The L.I.V.E. Outreach's deep commitment to education and literacy for children in the Detroit metropolitan area. The "L" in L.I.V.E. stands for Learn, and we believe that access to books is one of the most powerful tools for helping children learn, grow, and succeed. Research consistently shows that access to books is one of the strongest predictors of academic success, yet many children lack personal libraries or even regular access to reading materials.

At The L.I.V.E. Outreach, we believe there is more to education than the classic classroom. Our founder, Malika Williams, who holds degrees from Macomb Community College and Ferris State University, is passionate about creating pathways to learning for every child. The Book Donations program works to ensure that children across Detroit have the reading materials they need to develop a lifelong love of learning.

We believe that every child deserves to own books that reflect their interests, experiences, and aspirations. Whether it is a picture book for a toddler, a chapter book for a middle schooler, or a college prep guide for a teenager, we strive to match each child with books that will inspire and educate them.

Who We Serve

Our Book Donations program serves children from birth through age eighteen, as well as the families and caregivers who support them in the Detroit area. We distribute books through schools, community centers, and directly to families. We also provide books to group homes and transitional living programs to ensure that young people have access to resources that support their continued growth and learning.

How to Support Book Donations

You can help put books into the hands of children in Detroit in several ways:

  • Donate books: Contribute new or gently used books in good condition for all age groups and reading levels.
  • Give financially: Monetary donations through Givebutter, Cash App ($TheLIVEOutreach), or PayPal allow us to purchase high-demand titles and fill gaps in our inventory.
  • Volunteer: Help sort books by age group, organize distribution events, and read with youth at community gatherings.
  • Purchase our founder's book: Buy a copy of "I'm just trying to L.I.V.E." by Malika Williams on Amazon. All proceeds support our mission.

Our Impact on Literacy in Detroit

Through the Book Donations program, The L.I.V.E. Outreach has placed thousands of books into the hands of children in the Detroit metropolitan area. Many of these children had never owned a book of their own before receiving one from our organization. By fostering a love of reading, we are helping to build a foundation for lifelong learning and academic achievement, empowering young people to become the valiant, extraordinary people they are meant to be.
